A lil bit of cardiac information (not to much though)
Hello everyone, sorry for the long delay in getting a post on here. Well the intermediate class is moving right along and we now only have three and a half months to go until clinicals. We recently completed a human body systems chapter which goes in more detail that the origianl EMT-basic class did. Cardic (heart) has always been my favorite part so that is what I will post some info about.
The Cardiovascular System
The cardio system consist of three things, Heart, Blood, and blood vessels(veins and arteries). This system is very important obviously because without the system working like it should, the body cannot sustain life.
What controls the heart? Well, the brain does of course. The sympathetic and parasympathetic componets of the autonomic nervous system work against each other to control the heart.In the hearts normal state, the two systems are balanced. In stressful situations however, the sympathetic system becomes dominate. During sleep, the parasympathetic system is dominate. I can go into dept on these two systems, but not here, lots of explaining there
Cardiac Conduction System
The conduction system stimulates the ventricles to depolarize in the proper direction. The basically means that the heart muscle is being told to contract and relax on certain cues to make the heart pump blood. The Atria(top two chambers) contract from top to bottom. The Ventricles (bottom chambers) contract from the bottom up. This is where the conduction system comes in to make sure the the electricle impulses that stimulate the heart contractions are sent like they should to make the heart work. The system consist of specialized conduction fibers that transmit the signals through the heart.
The Pacemaker (patended by God himself)
The first impulse is fired through the high atrium at the sinoatrial (SA) or sinus node. The SA node atrial pathways connect the SA node to the Atrioventricular (AV) node. The signal then passes through the AV node through the atrium to the AV junction “Gatekeeper”, and slows down the signal so that the ventricle chambers can fill up with blood. This is the time between Systolic and Diastolic blood pressure. The signal then passes through the gatekeeper on into the AV node and on to the AV fibers which conduct the impulses from the atrium to the ventricles. In the ventricles, the AV fibers are called bundle of His. The bundle of His divides into left and right bundle branches in the ventricles. The fibers are then called the Purkinje fibers which transmit the remaing signal throughout the bottom of the heart and back up creating the proper contractions.
When does it spell trouble?
These systems of nodes and fibers are designed to work together. However, life can be sustained with the loss of some conductivity, but not much. If the SA node should fail, the AV node can take over and sustain life by keeping the heart beating even though the contractions are irregular. If the AV node should fail, the only remaining system is the Bundle of His and the Purkinje Fibers that will try to compensate like they should, but it will not sustain life and the PT will need medicine and a Pacemaker like really fast.

2 weeks ago I was driving around my block the kid were about to go for a nap so I saw this cat house that some one maid for his cats. Here is the photo of that house.

Friday 13th March 2009: Author’s choice: Unlucky!
Here is a little story about this car. My Mother in law got this car from a friend of hers. About 6 mos latter My brother in law was make a u turn and a car hit him on the side of the car and tolled it. It stay in my mother in laws yard for 5 years. So for Mr. Nascar Birthday last year they said if you can fix it you can have it. So we got it home and Mr. Nascar start on it right away. So one day last fall Mr. Nascar and His Dad went to the beach for the day. On the way home out of no were a deer run out and hit the car on the side. So We got it fix now. That is why we call our car unlucky.

Sunday we went to Mr.Nascar Moms House for day. We had a great day. Mr Ac/Dc got his haircut by grandma. And I look out the window and saw Mr. Nascar about to get on his horse.
